MONROE - Snowy, icy road conditions led to a rash of accidents in the area early Wednesday morning, including a three-vehicle crash that seriously injured a Monroe teenager, according to the Green County Sheriff's Office.

Erika A. Duecker, 18, a senior at Juda High School, was taken first to Monroe Clinic and later to a Rockford hospital for treatment of her injuries.

A Mercyhealth REACT helicopter was initially called to the accident scene to airlift Duecker, but the helicopter could not fly to respond because of weather conditions, said Green County Lt. Kari Phillips.

The three-vehicle accident involving Duecker happened at about 7:15 a.m. in the W3400 block of Wisconsin 11, Town of Sylvester. Deputies were en route to another accident when they came upon a vehicle in the ditch and stopped to investigate.

While the squad car was stopped, three vehicles piled up behind it. Todd R. Meier, 58, Monroe, was stopped directly behind the squad. The driver behind him, Alyssa M. Ubersox, 27, Monroe, was also stopped.

Duecker, approaching the stopped cars from behind, was unable to stop her vehicle in time and slid into the rear end of Ubersox's vehicle, which in turn was pushed into Meier's vehicle.

Meier was uninjured and able to drive his vehicle from the scene. Ubersox had minor injuries. Her vehicle sustained severe damage and was towed. Duecker's vehicle was also severely damaged and towed.

The Juda Fire Department, Green County EMS and Wisconsin State Patrol assisted at the scene.
