MONROE - A New Glarus teen was charged Monday with child abuse after she threw candle wax in the face of her teenage sister during an altercation.
Lessi Evonne Strahm Stewart, 18, faces a Class F felony charge of child abuse and a misdemeanor count of disorderly conduct.
Stewart's charges stem from an incident on Monday when she was returning to her residence from a trip to Monroe. When Stewart arrived at her home, she found the door locked and her sister and grandmother on the other side.
While Stewart claimed her sister simply refused to open the door in an attempt to frustrate Stewart, a video recorded on the sister's smartphone showed otherwise. Upon finding the door locked, Stewart was recorded flying into a rage, screaming obscenities at her family and pounding on the door.
After being let inside, Stewart reportedly became involved in a physical altercation with her sister, spraying her in the face with Windex before ultimately throwing hot candle wax from a scented wax warmer.
The victim did not require medical treatment for her injuries.
Stewart's preliminary hearing will take place July 13. Her maximum possible sentence is 7.5 years in prison.
