A child was injured and taken to SSM Monroe Hospital by a private party after his ATV was struck by a car on Wis. 11/81 at Short Lane around 9:30 a.m. July 18.

MONROE — A 15-year-old was rushed to Monroe Clinic emergency room with injuries following the crash of the ATV he was driving with a pickup truck on Wis. Hwy 11/81 west of Monroe Monday morning.

The incident happened just before 9:30 a.m. in the 26000 block of Wis. 11/81 in the Town of Sylvester, police said, where the teen collided with a truck driven by 61-year-old Robert W. Green of Brodhead.

Green appeared to have been traveling in his maroon pickup west on the highway as the teen attempted to cross on his red four-wheeler — just before Balls Mills Road.

Authorities were unsure of the extent of the teen’s injuries as of press time, and no one else was injured, according to Green County Sheriff Jeff Skatrud. Juda Fire and Green County deputies worked the scene, which reduced the four-lane at that point to a single, very slow lane of traffic for about an hour following the crash.

The teen, according to Skatrud, was wearing a helmet and eye protection. He was initially cited by police for failure to yield, the sheriff said.

The incident remains under investigation, he added.
