MONROE -Marking its 46th Annual Swissfest, the Monroe Swiss Singers will perform at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 4 in the Grand Hall of the Turner Hall of Monroe.
Sharing the stage and program along with the Monroe Swiss Singers are the Männerchor New Glarus and the New Glarus Yodel Club. Alphorns, accordions, Swiss coin-rolling, Swiss flag-throwing and yodeling will again be part of the show. Special performers this year will include the Squeezebox Night Ensemble, a group of accordionists led by Del Heins who meet every third Tuesday evening of the month in the Turner Hall Ratskeller for a jam session; Emily Streiff, a New Glarus grade-schooler who plays accordion and yodels; and an echo yodel by seasoned yodeler Tony Zgraggen and 10-year-old Celeste Thalhammer.
The Monroe Swiss Singers will also perform the song "Liebi Heimet" (Dear Home), which earned the group a gold rating in a Swiss singing competition held in Ontario, Canada this past summer, scoring the highest number of points of the 17 choirs entered from around the upper Midwest and Canada.
The group held its first Swissfest in November of 1963.
General seating tickets are $8 in advance, available in Turner Hall's Ratskeller Restaurant through Saturday, Nov. 3, or $10 at the door; $1 for children in grades kindergarten through 12; and pre-schoolers are admitted free. The ticket price includes both the show and a dance with music by the Greg Anderson Band following the program. Grand Hall doors will open at 1:30 p.m. A special Swissfest menu will be featured in the Ratskeller Restaurant from 4 to 8 p.m.
