WISCONSIN DELLS - The Swiss Colony, Inc., Monroe was one of 15 Wisconsin companies to receive a Wisconsin Corporate Safety Award recently at the Wisconsin Safety Council's 68th annual Safety and Health Congress Expo at the Kalahari Resort, Wisconsin Dells.
The Wisconsin Corporate Safety Awards, April 27, were co-sponsored by the Wisconsin Safety Council and the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development. The 16th annual awards program honors businesses for exemplary safety records and excellence in health and safety management.
The Swiss Colony is a mail-order cheese company founded in 1926. Today the business is one of the world's largest direct marketing companies.
The company also provides customers with furniture and home decor, apparel, entertainment products, gifts and collectibles, all through catalog and Internet sales.
The company employs 1,100 full-time and approximately 7,000 temporary associates annually with 12 facilities located in the Midwest.
In all, 15 businesses and three individuals received honors at the awards program. An independent panel of 48 judges, including leaders in business, health and safety, evaluated the 171 nominations based on injury incidence rates over the last three years, health and safety procedures, policies and accomplishments.
