MONROE - The Monroe School Board was updated Monday on a $1,500 gift from the Swiss Colony Foundation to the district that will be used as for one-time gifted and talented scholarships.

Terri Montgomery, the district's gifted and talented coordinator, said students will have to fill out an application and write an essay to be considered for a scholarship. The scholarships will allow students to participate in events or contests.

Montgomery said it hasn't been determined how many scholarships will be awarded.

"It will be depend on the quality of the essays and the need," she said.

The board also approved the resignations of Sue Leuzinger, a SLD teacher at Abraham Lincoln Elementary, and Dale Buvid, a science teacher at Monroe High School.
