JANESVILLE - Two Rock County cousins suspected in a string of rural burglaries appeared in court Monday.
The pair were intially were arrested last Thursday on suspicion of robbing a Brodhead home, and have subsequently been charged with a string of burglaries in at least four Wisconsin counties, including Lafayette County, according to the Janesville Gazette.
Matthew A. Kinder, 22, of Beloit, waived his preliminary hearing. He is expected to enter a plea at a hearing set for 8 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 16.
A preliminary hearing was begun for Brandon E. Kinder, 26 of Orfordville. It is scheduled to continue at 3 p.m. today. A sheriff's office detective is expected to testify today about statements Brandon Kinder made to investigators. The detective was not available Monday. Matthew Kinder cited his constitutional right not to answer questions at his cousin's hearing.
The only other witness was a woman who testified that she arrived at her home on West Beloit-Newark Road the afternoon of July 21 to find two men leaving in a black Dodge Neon.
She later discovered her home had been burglarized.
The woman said she got a partial license plate number.
That number led sheriff's deputies to arrest the Kinders in Orfordville.
The two already had been identified as persons of interest in a string of rural burglaries.
Brandon Kinder faces 57 previous burglary-related charges in Rock, Walworth and four other counties.
The Kinders remained in custody Monday afternoon - Brandon on $20,000 cash bond and Matthew on $5,000 cash bond.
