Survey coming in April

MONROE - The Monroe school board voted Monday to move ahead with a spring survey to gauge community support for potential referendum questions.

"I'm excited that we can start to move into this next phase, get some good feedback from the community and really, sort of, work with the community to better educate and understand what it is that we are looking for and have them telling us what it is that they can support and really work together to get this thing lined up for success - that's really what the goal is," said board president Bob Erb.

Monroe administrators have been working with School Perceptions, an educational research firm, which will help develop and conduct the survey.

The firm will begin drafting the survey next week and expect it to open on April 18, according to the survey proposal. Community members would have until May 4 to submit their answers.

District Administrator Cory Hirsbrunner said the board will decide around June whether or not to go to referendum after School Perceptions presents the survey results.

The survey will cost the district $8,400, but Erb said he's hoping to get outside financial support, similar to the arrangement made for last year's surveys where local businesses agreed to pay about two-thirds of the cost.

Attending school board members voted unanimously in favor of the survey. Clerk Amy Bazley, vice president Scott Schmidt and board member Les Bieneman were absent from Monday's meeting.
