MONROE - Two minor changes approved for Northpass strip mall opens the way for the Sugar River Bank of Monroe to move in by mid-March.

The City of Monroe Plan Commission gave its approval to Terry Martin, owner and builder of Northpass, at a meeting Wednesday at City Hall.

The approval was for bank signs to be place on both the north and west sides of the corner site and for a color change to the awning.

The changes to the development plan are minor changes and do not need council approval, according to City Attorney Rex Ewald.

The Sugar River Bank of Monroe will be the sixth location for the Bank of New Glarus. The bank has branches in Juda, Brodhead, Belleville and New Glarus.

Joe Klein, vice president of the Bank of New Glarus, said the Monroe branch bank has a tentative opening date of March 15.

Improvements are currently being made to the leased property.

"Right now, we are in there hanging dry wall. Bank equipment is either in or has been ordered," Klein said.

The new branch will employee two full-time and two part-time employees, with a branch manager and customer service representatives to start, Klein said.

With 2,200 square feet, the bank will be a full-service location with a two-lane drive-through and ATM. Customers may use any of the locations to access their accounts.

"Monroe is a nice addition to the bank," Klein said.

The Bank of New Glarus started in 1893 and has focused on Green County for its expansion.

Northpass strip mall, which includes Cousin's Subs, is located at 250 N. 18th Ave., on the southeast corner of the Wisconsin 11 and 69 intersection.
