MADISON - About 100 Green County fifth-graders will be educated in a variety of conservation topics Friday at Honey Creek Park.
Students from Monroe's Parkside Elementary School, Saint Victor's School, Monticello schools and a homeschooling network will be attending the event from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Students will start at one of 10 stations and rotate through them until all stations have been experienced. Topics that will be covered are soil conservation, exploring a soil pit, forestry, macroinvertebrates, fish management, Native American history of Green County, wildlife management, prairies, fishing and casting, and the water cycle.
The variety of topics presented is made possible with the cooperation of local individuals, nonprofit groups and state and local agencies. Those involved in this youth conservation day are: Janet and Steve Gobeli, Green County Conservation League, Prairie Enthusiasts, Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, Natural Resources Conservation Service, University of Wisconsin Extension, and the Green County Land and Water Conservation Department. Presenters will have lunch provided by Green County Ag Chest.
