MONROE - One by one, streets around the courthouse will be blocked this mid-September.

Police Chief Fred Kelley Monday night presented to the Public Works Committee a street closings schedule for Monroe's Cheese Days festival, set for Sept. 19-21.

Portions of more streets are expected to be blocked off this year, to accommodate the event's growth.

Kelley will be distributing the information, especially to the business owners in the downtown area, to get feedback on any concerns about the closings before the event permit is approved.

New street closings this year are expected to be one block in each direction off the Square, from 15th Avenue to 18th Avenue on 10th and 11th streets; and from Ninth to 12th Street on 16th and 17th avenues. Turn lanes that would allow traffic down 16th Avenue and up 17th Avenue will be blocked also.

Other action taken by the committee:

• Approved Monroe Main Street St. Patrick's Day Parade, March 17, at 5:17 p.m.

• Approved the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation Walk, May 17, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Twining Park.
