MONROE - A New Glarus man was arrested Sunday for his sixth drunk-driving offense after he was involved in a traffic collision in New Glarus.

Mark A. Steiner, 57, was charged with a Class G felony count of sixth-offense driving while intoxicated and a Class H felony count of bail jumping after a minor traffic collision at the intersection of Wisconsin 69 and 6th Avenue in New Glarus.

According to a criminal complaint, Steiner rear-ended another vehicle at the intersection. Neither driver was injured, but Steiner appeared visibly intoxicated when police confronted him.

A preliminary breath test found Steiner with a blood alcohol level of .302 percent. Steiner was subsequently arrested.

Steiner currently faces another sixth-offense drunk driving charge after an incident on April 27, when he was found intoxicated after police pulled him over for having an expired vehicle registration on Wis. 69 in New Glarus. If Steiner is convicted of either charge, the other charge will be updated to a seventh-offense charge.

Steiner's previous drunk driving offenses took place on Aug. 4, 1990, Nov. 23, 1990, April 9, 1993, Feb. 15, 1998, and May 22, 2004.

Steiner signed a $5,000 cash bond Wednesday with conditions that he not consume or possess any alcohol or enter any establishment for the sale of liquor. His preliminary hearing on the most recent charge will take place Wednesday. Steiner's maximum possible sentence is eight years in prison.
