MADISON — Following an extensive search, SSM Health has announced that Mark Thompson, MD has been named President, Medical Groups — SSM Health Wisconsin Region. Currently SSM Health Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Thompson brings more than 20 years of health care experience both as a physician and leader to his expanded role.

Effective immediately, Dr. Thompson will be responsible for directing physician and advance practice services within the clinics and ambulatory settings throughout our Wisconsin region. He will work closely with his SSM Health hospital counterpart, Kerry Swanson, Regional COO-Hospital Operations. Both report to Wisconsin Regional President, Damond Boatwright.

Board certified in Family Medicine, Dr. Thompson is a seasoned leader with more than a decade of experience in Chief Medical Officer roles within SSM Health and at Monroe Clinic. He also has served as a University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health Residency program director and as a faculty family medicine physician in the United States Air Force.
