Specialist offers free services for seniors

MONROE - Linda Gallagher, the elder benefit specialist for Green County, works with residents 60 years of age and older, regardless of financial status. There is no charge for services; however donations can be made toward the cost of the service.

Gallagher's main office is part of the Aging and Disability Resource Center in the Government Services Building, Pleasant View Complex, N3152 Wisconsin 81, Monroe. Office hours are 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Gallagher can be reached at 608-328-9366.

Eligible residents may use the service if they need information or are having a problem securing benefits; need help completing applications; have been denied a benefit; or want to apply for Medicare, Medicare Supplemental Insurance and Advantage Plans; senior care and Medicare Part D; Social Security and Supplemental Security Income; Medical Assistance, Low Income Subsidy Programs (QMB, SLMB, SLMB-Plus), Foodshare (food stamps) or Energy Assistance; or have other legal, benefit or consumer problems.

All files, correspondence and conversations with the benefit specialist are confidential.

Gallagher will be available in the following communities during June:

Albany: 12:30 to 1 p.m. June 1 at Riverview Apartments and from 1:15 to 2 p.m. at Albany Village Hall

Juda: noon to 1 p.m. June 2 at the Juda Community Building

Monroe: 11 a.m. to noon June 6 at the Behring Senior Center

Brodhead: 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. June 8 at Brodhead City Hall

Monticello: 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. June 13 at the Monticello Public Library

New Glarus: 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. June 13 at New Glarus Dining Center

For the best service and to ensure the benefit specialist is available, call for an appointment. Home visits also can be arranged.
