NORA, Ill. - A South Wayne woman was killed after her car was struck by another driver, a Monroe man, who failed to stop at an intersection in the village of NORA, Ill. Thursday, Oct. 11.
Alice M. Wand, 69, was at the intersection of North Stagecoach Trail and North Tiger Whip Road at about 8 p.m. Thursday when her vehicle was struck by another vehicle driven by Dalton Lee Weidner, 26, Monroe.
According to the Jo Daviess County Sheriff's Department:
Weidner was northbound on North Tiger Whip Road when he failed to stop at a stop sign at the intersection.
He crashed into the driver's side of Wand's vehicle. Wand was trapped inside the vehicle and had to be extricated.
She was taken by Lifeline to a Rockford hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
Weidner was taken to Monroe Clinic, then transported to Madison for further treatment.
He faces charges of disobeying traffic control; failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident; driving too fast for conditions; failure to yield at an intersection; and unsafe equipment. Police said more charges against Weidner are pending.
The Warren police and fire departments responded to the accident.
