MONROE - A South Wayne man with four prior drunk driving convictions was arrested Sunday on the same charge after his truck hit a tree in Browntown.

David M. Baumgartner, 53, faces a fifth-offense charge of operating while intoxicated, a felony. He was also cited for failure to maintain control.

Baumgartner was driving westbound in the 400 block of Old Highway Road at about 6:51 p.m. when his truck left the road, hit a tree and caught fire, according to the Green County Sheriff's Office. He was not wearing a seatbelt.

He was removed from the truck before first responders arrived. Green County EMS took him to a local hospital for treatment of his injuries.

The truck was severely damaged and towed. The Browntown Fire Depart-ment assisted at the scene.

Court records show that Baumgartner's prior drunk driving convictions include a third-offense OWI in March 2001 in Lafayette County and a fourth-offense OWI in June 2008 in Green County.

For the most recent OWI, he was sentenced to 60 days in jail, fined $1,219 and had his license revoked two years.
