Wis. 69 closed for 2 hours, numerous accidents reported

MONROE - A stretch of Wisconsin 69 south of Monticello was shut down about two hours Monday morning, March 18 as emergency crews cleared the scene of a crash involving a semi.

The accident was reported at 9:49 a.m. about two miles south of Monticello in the N5800 block of Wis. 69, according to the Green County Sheriff's Department. The semi and a van sideswiped between Wittenwyler Road and Gutzmer Road.

The drivers, both men, sustained minor injuries.

The sheriff's department reported numerous accidents and slide-offs across the county Monday as about 3.5 inches of snow fell, causing slippery conditions.

Most of the snow came in big, wet flakes during the morning hours. Blowing snow contributed to the hazardous conditions that continued throughout the day.

A chance of flurries and blowing snow continued overnight, with flurries expected to continue until early afternoon today, March 19.

The forecast for the rest of the week calls for several cold, dry days. Wednesday is expected to be breezy with a high near 20 degrees. Thursday and Friday will be mostly sunny with a highs reaching 26 and 31, respectively.

High temperatures are expected to stay in the mid 30s through the weekend. In contrast, last year, southern Wisconsin was enjoying unseasonably warm weather. The high for March 18, 2012 was 79 degrees.
