MONROE - The Monroe City Council Tuesday night approved a restated development agreement, general development plan and specific implementation plan (Phase I) for the Wal-Mart Supercenter large scale retail development.

The Wal-Mart store, expected to open in early summer of 2009, will be 156,000 square feet, smaller than the 185,000-square-foot store first planned.

Construction is scheduled to begin in August.
