SLANT operation busts meth house in Monroe

MONROE - A search warrant on a house in the 2600 block of 12th Avenue in Monroe Thursday afternoon resulted in the arrest of a resident for allegedly cooking and dealing meth in the garage, according to the Green County Sheriff's Department.

Ethan David Studer, 21, faces multiple felony charges related to methamphetamine manufacture and possession, as well as maintaining a drug-trafficking place.

State court records show Studer has lived at 2622 12th Ave. since at least 2013. He has no criminal convictions on his record. The City of Monroe cited him for underage drinking and keeping a "disorderly house" at the address in March 2013.

The search of Studer's home at about 5:15 p.m. Thursday came after a period of intelligence-gathering by the Stateline Area Narcotics Team, the interagency drug task force known by its acronym, SLANT.

"They developed the intelligence and then they had enough to go forward with it," Green County Sheriff Mark Rohloff said.

The Monroe Fire Department "had to decontaminate the suspect" of any traces of meth before he was taken to jail, Rohloff said.

This is standard practice, he added.

"They get stripped right down and hosed down. They get put into a bunny suit and then taken to jail. You just can't risk contamination," he said.

Studer was living in the house with his mother, but she is not currently charged, Rohloff said.

Teams from the Monroe Police Department and Green and Lafayette County Sheriff's Offices provided tactical support during the search and arrest. The Wisconsin Department of Criminal Investigation assisted with collecting evidence and decontaminating the scene.

Studer is being held at the Green County Jail on a probable-cause determination until the criminal complaint is filed and an initial appearance is scheduled. Rohloff expects this will happen Monday or Tuesday.
