SLANT bust defendants sentenced
New Gavel

MONROE — The last of four arrested in a marijuana bust earlier this year was sentenced.

In court before Circuit Judge Faun M. Phillipson on Monday, Nov. 11, Zachari L. Andrews, 34, of Monroe, was sentenced to a year in the Green County Jail on a felony count of Maintaining a Drug Trafficking Place, with Huber Privileges, court records indicate.

He was also placed on a “Deferred Conviction Agreement” for a period of three years for Manufacturing THC in an amount greater than four plants but less than 20 plants. The Deferred Conviction Agreement functions like probation but without a formal probation agent, prosecutors said.

“Andrews must complete counseling, comply with other monitoring requirements, and not receive any new criminal charges for a period of three years to successfully complete the Deferred Conviction Agreement,” said District Attorney Craig Nolen, in an email, following the Monday hearing.

According to the criminal complaint, a house located in the 800 block of 9th Street was raided by the State Line Anti-Narcotics Team (SLANT) early on March 5, 2024. In addition to the drug-related evidence, an infant child was present in the home with access to areas where marijuana was being grown, investigators said in a criminal complaint; and as a result, initial child-neglect charges were filed against some defendants.

Police found eight plants located in a room in the home that had been a former baby nursery, records indicate. Investigators also said in the criminal complaint that they found additional quantities of marijuana, a dozen amphetamine/methamphetamine pills, and several items with apparent cocaine residue.

Another defendant in the case, Nicole Danielle Andrews, 40, was earlier sentenced to 18 months’ probation on counts of misdemeanor possession of THC and of drug paraphernalia. A felony charge of neglecting a child that arose from the case was dismissed but “read in” to the record. She was given a deferred prosecution on another charge.

Cody Allen Kirschbaum, 36, also a defendant in the case, earlier pleaded guilty to felony possession of THC (2nd offense) and possession of drug paraphernalia. A charge of Maintaining a Drug Trafficking Place was dismissed but “read in” the record. He received two years of probation.

Charges were dismissed by prosecutors for a fourth defendant, Jason M. Reamer, 38, of Monroe, who is now deceased, according to court records.
