LANCASTER - A preliminary hearing will be held in Grant County Circuit Court in Lancaster this afternoon for a Shullsburg woman charged with fourth-offense drunk driving.
Julie M. Culbert also was charged with fourth-offense operating after revocation, resisting or failing to stop for an officer and resisting or obstructing an officer, and speeding 16-19 mph over the speed limit on an expressway.
Culbert made her first appearance Feb. 12. She is free on a $1,000 signature bond with the condition she not possess or consume alcohol during the case. She faces up to six years in prison and $10,000 in fines if convicted of the drunk-driving charge.
A Wisconsin State Patrol trooper tried to stop Culbert for speeding on U.S. 151 Feb. 10 around 6:40 p.m. Culbert drove with the vehicle's hazard lights on until she got stuck in a snowbank at the Oak Park Trailer Park on Classic Lane southwest of Platteville. Culbert told the trooper she had a family medical emergency, and the trooper reported she slurred her words and admitted to having been drinking.
Culbert was sentenced to 45 days in jail, fined $1,544, had her driver's license revoked for 24 months and had a 24-month driver's license ignition interlock requirement after she pleaded guilty to third-offense drunk driving in Lafayette County in October 2016, according to court records. She was sentenced to 40 days in jail, had her driver's license revoked for 18 months and had a 12-month ignition interlock requirement after she pleaded no contest to second-offense drunk driving in Grant County in June 2012.
