DARLINGTON - A Shullsburg man was sentenced Monday to 18 months on probation after entering a plea bargain in a methamphetamine case.

Jonathon D. Groom, 34, pleaded guilty to misdemeanor charges of possessing amphetamine, LSD or psilocybin and possessing drug paraphernalia. A felony charge of possessing narcotic drugs was dismissed.

The charges stem from a traffic stop July 31 at the intersection of Truman Road and Wisconsin 126 just south of Belmont. Police stopped Groom for a brake light that was not working and searched the car.

The search turned up a glass smoking pipe, a clear baggie filled with a powder that later tested positive for methamphetamine, a piece of foil with the same substance on it and a half a methadone pill, according to court records.

Conditions of Groom's probation include undergoing an asasessment for alcohol and other drug abuse and following through with all recommended treatment. Groom is also ordered not to drink or possess alcohol, go into bars or liquor stores or consume nonprescription controlled substances or any prescription medicine for which he does not have a prescription. He owes the court $352.
