MONROE - The Monroe Arts Center will have open auditions for the MAC Radio Live 2013 Showcase of Talent, scheduled for 6 until 9 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 15 and from 10 a.m. until noon Saturday, Nov. 17 at MAC, 1315 11th St.

For a 15th consecutive year, MAC will host the annual event showcasing the talent from the area.

In collaboration with Big Radio, MAC Radio Live will be presented in the same style as other well-known radio shows such as Prairie Home Companion, and will be broadcast live on Big Radio. The show, hosted by Ron Spielman and directed by Nadine Whiteman, will also include commercial jingles, the return of last year's house band, Betty and the Bee Stings directed by Peggy Miller Sheffer, and a live studio audience.

"Every year this event gets better and better, and I'm thrilled to be involved again," Whiteman said. "It's a tremendous opportunity for any talent, as they will be performing for both a live studio and a radio-listening audience. If chosen, participants will find the performance experience to be as rewarding as it is fun."

Any interested individuals with performing arts talents are encouraged to audition. Auditions are open to adults, children, as well as any size group. Even though the performances will be before a live studio audience, acts that translate particularly well to a radio-listening audience will be sought. Entertainment in all genres of music (popular, jazz, folk, orchestral, chamber, solo, etc.), comedy (stand-up, skits, improv), as well as other types of acts will be considered. Performers are required to audition their act in its entirety, up to a maximum of 6 minutes. Performance attire, costumes, or props are required at auditions.

MAC Radio Live 2013 Showcase of Talent performances will be presented at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 18 and at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 19, 2013 in the Monroe High School Performing Arts Center. General admission tickets for the event are $10 for adults, and $5 for students (18 and under), and are available at the Monroe Arts Center box office.
