MONROE - Sherri Hendrickson, a business education teacher at Monroe High School, was presented with the Out-standing Educator Award at the recent Monroe School District Scholarship and Awards Program.
The award is sponsored by the Monroe Excellence in Education Fund and includes a $500 stipend to be used for professional development or classroom teaching materials. The fund presents the award annually in an effort to recognize outstanding achievements and performance of teachers in the Monroe School District.
The Outstanding Educator Award is presented to an individual teacher or team of teachers in the Monroe School District who exemplify the highest standards and practices of the teaching profession. These qualities include demonstrating distinguished performance in the classroom, professionalism, leadership, collegiality, innovation, creativity and a commitment to students and their learning.
Hendrickson has taught at Monroe High School for 14 years and has been teaching for 30 years in total. She was nominated by her district colleagues who mentioned her passion for helping students learn, keeping her classes current and relevant and challenging students to be the best students and citizens they can be, as well as her professionalism, innovation and her commitment to education.
"Sherri is an amazing instructor that is very well respected by students, staff and the families that she works with," said Cory Hirsbrunner, Monroe superintendent. "The experiences that Sherri provides her students are top notch. I feel that Sherri has made me a better educator, administrator and person due to my interactions and work with her. There are some educators who, because of their commitment to education and students, must be considered outstanding. Sherri Hendrickson is truly outstanding. She is overwhelmingly deserving of this prestigious award."
Two other educators received honorable mentions: Nichole Jordan and Jennifer Neuenschwander.
"The Excellence in Education Board was very fortunate to have such quality nominees to choose from," Hirsbrunner said.
