MONROE — Authorities say a woman has died from her injuries sustained in a two-motorcycle crash last weekend near the New Glarus Brewery.

The crash happened just after 12:36 p.m. Saturday in the N8000 block of Wis. 69, Town of New Glarus, police said. The first driver was transported via med flight for medical care, authorities said, but she later died. She was identified as Kathryn I. Hilt, age 60 of Fort Atkinson.

“Investigation found that a motorcycle was operating southbound on STH 69 when the operator abruptly attempted to turn left into the brewery driveway,” a police statement said. “A second motorcycle was following the first and struck the side of the motorcycle.”

The second driver also sustained an injury characterized as being “severe” and was transported by ambulance to an area hospital. 

Both riders were not wearing helmets, police said. The incident marked the county’s third fatal traffic crash of 2023.
