ORANGEVILLE Ill. - Domestic violence might have been a motive in recent shootings, which left a woman, and the alleged shooter, dead, according to Stephenson County Sheriff David Snyders.
Police continue to investigate a multiple shooting that took place Sunday, April 3, which also left another man injured.
Snyders said the investigation was turned over to the Illinois State Police Crime Scene Unit.
Snyders wouldn't comment about the case, but he said the motive for the shooting was domestic violence related. Snyders was not able to comment about any evidence found at the crime scene because the case is ongoing.
Annette J. Scott, 50, died of multiple gun shot wounds following the double shooting at about 10:28 a.m. at 220 Hancock Drive, Sunday, and William J. Scott, 58, died after an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head, which took place at his residence. Both died Sunday night.
A third victim, Rollin E. Dunham II, 52, Orangeville, is recovering from injuries, Snyders said.
When deputies arrived, they found Annette Scott and Dunham were shot multiple times. Dunham's two daughters and Annette Scott's son were also in the residence and had witnessed the shooting, according to a sheriff's report Monday.
All identified William Scott, Annette Scott's ex-husband, as the shooter, according to the sheriff's department said.
William Scott was later found suffering from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head in the living room area at his residence, 405 Bostian Court, Orangeville, which is visible from the first crime scene.
He was pronounced dead at the Freeport Health Network Hospital.
Annette Scott was transported to Saint Anthony Hospital, Rockford, Ill., where she later died.
Snyders said Monday there was a history of domestic violence, and there was an order of protection against William Scott.
