DARLINGTON - A man convicted in 2005 of child enticement of boys in Darlington will be released next week from prison and returned to the community, police announced Tuesday, May 28.
Alan J. Liphart, 29, is being released June 3 after eight years in a state prison. He will be returned to the Darlington area. Court records indicate he had a South Wayne address before his incarceration.
"Liphart's exact place of residence is still undetermined," Darlington Police Chief Jason King said in a news release. If Liphart is unable to establish a place to live prior to his release, he will be kept at the county jail in Darlington until he finds a home and is able provide proof of residency to the Department of Corrections.
King's announcement of Liphart's release is required under state statutes governing the release of registered sex offenders.
Liphart's targeted victims were minor males. Liphart was convicted in 2005 of two Class D felony counts of child enticement involving sexual contact.
Court records show a history before then of similar convictions involving under-18 victims, including fourth-degree sexual assault, exposing genitals to a child and four counts of disorderly conduct.
"Liphart will be monitored 24/7 via an ankle bracelet and is prohibited from having unsupervised contact with children. He may not be present in taverns or liquor stores and is prohibited from consuming alcohol or drugs," King said.
Liphart is described as white, 5-foot-9, 210 pounds, with green eyes, blonde hair and glasses.
King stressed in his release that there is no cause to believe Liphart poses a threat to neighbors. The announcement of Liphart's release is intended "so you can make an informed decision" about safety precautions.
"Acts of harassment or disorderly conduct behavior directed at this individual will not be tolerated," King said.
