MONROE - A semi-truck hauling an "over-sized load" smashed into the Wisconsin 59 bridge at the eastbound Wisconsin 11 interchange on Monday, causing a detour that lasted about four hours.
The Green County Sheriff's Department reported that the load the semi-truck was carrying hit the bottom of the Wis. 59 bridge at about 3:20 p.m. Monday. The driver was uninjured, but the top of the load that was being carried compacted against the bridge and fell off the trailer.
Traffic was restricted to one lane on the eastbound side of Wis. 11, and the Wis. 59 overpass westbound coming into Monroe was closed while the Green County Highway Department inspected the bridge. A detour coming westbound towards Monroe took traffic to Wisconsin 69. The overpass was reopened to traffic at about 8 p.m.
