MONROE - It finally stopped raining, but it is too wet to do anything else, so now is the perfect time to take a drive in southeastern Green County to check out the nine sites of cover crops that were planted by airplanes late last August and early September.

Many are brown and just helping protect the soil from raindrops, but some are alive and green. Very soon, farmers will be planting crops in those fields and the signs that designate them as tour stops will be removed.

The driving tour was created last fall to showcase cover crops applied by airplane in Spring Creek Watershed. Now is the best chance to see how they did or didn't winter. The tour was meant to be done at the convenience of the farmer or interested party to see as many sites as weather or time allowed.

Brochures that include the maps and detail the stop information are being distributed at the USDA Service Center, 1627 4th Ave. West, Monroe. Interested parties also may download the brochures from the Green County Land and Water Conservation website at www.co.green.wi.gov, then click on Departments - Land and Water Conservation; at the bottom of the page under Events click on "Spring Creek Cover Crop Driving Tour."
