Second round of taxes due

MONROE - Sherri Hawkins, Green County Treasurer, reminds taxpayers that the second installment of real estate taxes is due by Friday. Checks can be made payable to the Green County Treasurer at the courthouse, 1016 16th Ave.

To mail payments, send to Green County Treasurer, 1016 16th Ave., Monroe WI 53566. For a receipt, enclose a self-addressed stamped envelope. An after-hours drop box is located on the east door of the courthouse. To pay by credit card or by e-check, visit the county website at www.co.green.wi.gov and under quick links, click on "Pay Taxes Online." There is an additional fee for the credit card and e-check service.

Belleville Community Bank and Brooklyn Community Bank Branches of Middleton Community Bank; Bank of New Glarus, Wisconsin 69, New Glarus; Sugar River Banks in Belleville, Brodhead, Juda and Monroe; Union Bank and Trust Company, New Glarus; Associated Bank, Monroe; and the Greenwoods State Bank, Monticello will be accepting postponed real estate tax payments during regular banking hours.

If taxes are not paid by the due date, they become subject to August interest and a penalty of 10.5 percent. The interest and penalty will continue to increase each month at the rate of 1.5 percent until the balance is paid in full.
