Schools salute veterans

On Veterans Day, Monday, Nov. 11, several schools in Green and Lafayette Counties will be hosting programs to honor those who have served in the armed forces. All programs are open to the public, and veterans especially are encouraged to attend. 

Programs will be held in the following districts:

Argyle: 10 a.m. in the Argyle Cafetorium, 14665 State Rd. 78. The band will perform, student council members will give speeches on past wars and veteran Rob Heitz will speak. Lunch will be provided for veterans following the program.

Albany: 9:30 to 11 a.m. at Albany Schools, 400 5th St. Band and choir will perform and there will be quotes and poems read by this year’s civics students. An Albany alumnus will serve as the keynote speaker. Guests are asked to enter at the gym lobby. Refreshments will be provided for veterans after the assembly.

Black Hawk: 9 a.m. in the Black Hawk School gym, 202 E. Center St., South Wayne. Program will consist of musical tributes and poetry selections. Coffee and muffins will be served for veterans at 8:30 a.m. prior to the program.

Brodhead: 9:30 a.m. at Albrecht Elementary School, 1400 21st St., in the multipurpose room. The program will include a chorus performance as well as readings and a flag folding ceremony. Coffee and donuts will be provided for veterans prior to the program around 8:30 a.m. 

Darlington: 8:30 a.m. at Darlington Elementary School, 11630 Center Hill Rd., in the gym. Program will include music and speakers. This will be followed by a program at 10 a.m. at Darlington High School, 11838 Center Hill Rd., in the gym. Band and choir will perform and an American Legion representative will speak. Lunch will be provided for veterans after the program.

Juda: 9 a.m. at Juda High School, N2385 Spring St., in the new gym. Program will include performances by choir and band as well as readings. Guests are asked to enter through doors next to gym. Coffee and donuts will be provided for veterans after the event.

Monticello: 10:30 a.m. at Monticello Elementary School’s Rehmstedt Gym, 334 S. Main St. Program will include choir performance and poetry.

Monroe: 1:45 p.m. at the Monroe High School Performing Arts Center. 1315 11th St. The choir will perform and there will be a reading. A school district employee who is a veteran will speak. Veterans and active military should RSVP to Sherri Hendrickson at 608-328-7331 or sherrihendrickson@monroe.k12.wi.us for stage seating. Both and their guests are also invited to dessert and coffee after the program. Attendees are asked to arrive at the event by 1:30 p.m. 

New Glarus: 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. in the New Glarus High School Gym, 1701 2nd St. The program will include music and readings and lunch will be provided for veterans afterward.

Pecatonica: 9 a.m. at Pecatonica Elementary School, 701 School Rd., Hollandale. Program will include readings and music. Breakfast will be provided for veterans beforehand from 8:15 to 8:45 a.m. A program will be held at 10:30 a.m. at the Pecatonica Middle/High School, 704 Cross St., Blanchardville, and veterans are invited to stay for lunch.
