MONROE - District Administrator Cory Hirsbrunner may be looking to leave the Monroe school district.
Hirsbrunner was recently named one of three finalists in Greendale School District's search for a new superintendent, according to a news release. Greendale is located near Milwaukee.
"I've been presented an exciting and intriguing opportunity as a finalist in Greendale," Hirsbrunner said Monday, noting that at this point she hasn't made any decisions to leave. "Nothing is final - haven't made any decisions yet, but just need to keep my options open both professionally and personally."
Greendale Schools released the names of the three finalists at the end of January and held public meetings with each candidate last week. Hirsbrunner's public meeting was Wednesday.
When asked if she was applying anywhere else, Hirsbrunner said, "Greendale specifically has a search firm that's working with them. There are other search firms across the state, so there have been other opportunities that have presented themselves, but again, nothing is - nothing is final or concrete at this point. Just keeping my options open."
She has been with the Monroe school district for more than 20 years in various positions, starting as a student teacher. She spent eight years as a teacher, nine years as a principal and three years as director of curriculum and instruction in Monroe, according to her candidate biography for Greendale superintendent.
The Monroe school board promoted Hirsbrunner to district administrator in 2012 with a salary of $130,000.
Hirsbrunner's husband, Dave, resigned from his position as Monroe High School's athletic director in December after being put on paid administrative leave for issues relating to the handling of athletic program money. He paid the school district more than $6,000 as part of a separation agreement.
She said his resignation played no part in her decision to look into opportunities with other districts.
