School admin to get raises

MONROE - Administrative staff and exempt staff in the Monroe school district will be getting a raise for the 2015-16 school year.

The school board approved the 2.1-percent salary increase at a meeting Monday. The increase is driven by the Consumer Price Index, according to District Administrator Cory Hirsbrunner.

It applies to Monroe's 11 administrative staff members and eight exempt staff members. Exempt staff are those in supervisory roles but who aren't administrators, said Ron Olson, the district's business manager. They include the food service director, the building and grounds director, school nurses and human resources. The assistant to the school board is also an exempt staff member, Olson said, as someone who deals with confidential information.

The increase will cost the district almost $32,000 - about $9,000 for exempt staff and $23,000 for administration - and is already accounted for in the 2015-16 budget.
