MONROE — A Monroe driver was injured in a rollover crash near Albany and charged with his third drunken driving offense Thursday morning, June 27, according to the Green County Sheriff’s Office.
Travis W. Ramsey, 50, was taken to the Monroe Clinic ER for treatment of his injuries and later transferred to St. Mary’s Hospital in Madison.
The accident happened at about 9:30 a.m. in the N5200 block of Wis. 59, Town of Albany. An investigation found that Ramsey was eastbound when he tried to pass another eastbound vehicle in a no-passing zone.
A westbound vehicle “had to brake heavily in order to avoid a head-on collision with Ramsey’s vehicle,” Sgt. Allen Peters reported. Ramsey’s vehicle then went off the road into the ditch, where it overturned several times and came to rest on its tires.
Ramsey, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was located in the backseat. The vehicle sustained disabling damage and was towed.
Ramsey was arrested on a third-offense charge of operating while under the influence of alcohol and cited for passing in a no-passing zone, passing into oncoming traffic, failure to wear a seatbelt and failure to keep vehicle under control. He was released pending court.
Albany police, Albany EMS and the Albany Fire Department assisted deputies at the scene.
Court records show Ramsey was sentenced in 2013 to 30 days in jail in Rock County for his second OWI conviction.
