MONROE - Summer means warm weather and road construction. The Green County Highway Department has several projects planned, Highway Commissioner Dallas Cecil said. Beginning June 21, County J between Wisconsin 81 and Rothenbuehler Road will be closed for about two weeks while workers replace a bridge. The highway department also has several sealcoating projects planned for the summer. Workers will spray liquid asphalt on the road and cover it with rock chips. The projects are expected to begin in early July. Sealcoating projects include: • County A from County H to County J. • County E east of Monticello to County CC. • County C at County CC to County D. • County C at County D to County X. • County DR at Wis. 69 to Wis. 59. • County F at County EE to Purintun Road. • County F at Purintun Road to Wis. 59. • County N at Wis. 81 to Monroe. • County N at Tucker Road to County C. • County O north of New Glarus to Dane County. • County U from County O to Dane County. • County W at Wis. 69 to County CC. • County W at County CC to Wis. 92. • County Y at County M to Wis. 81. • Wis. 11/81 from Balls Mill Road to Brodhead. Construction signs will be in place, but Cecil said people need to slow down in construction zones. Sealcoated roads will be posted for fresh oil and loose gravel and advisory speed limits. The county isn't responsible for chipped windshields, Cecil said. The City of Monroe is not scheduling any major street repairs this summer. "The budget has precluded us from taking on any significant repairs at this time," said Public Works Director Kelly Finkenbinder. For 2010, city crews will be sealcoating various spots throughout the city, and in some small areas putting down milling overlay. Otherwise, it's general maintenance, Finkenbinder said.
