MONROE - The City of Monroe streets department reminds residents of regulations regarding waste disposal and pick-up.

BULKY WASTE

"Bulky Waste" designates any solid waste, which due to its composition, weight, or bulk, cannot be effectively collected and transported. This includes furniture, appliances, furnaces, toilets, carpeting and swing sets. These items can be picked up at any time of the year by adhering to the following procedure:

- File a form at City Hall or at the Street Department explaining what the item is; it will be picked up on the next normal collection day.

- Purchase a "Bulky Waste Sticker" and affix it to the item for pickup. The cost of a bulky waste sticker varies according to the item. Some of the most common items: refrigerators or freezers, $50; air conditioning units, $40; dehumidifiers, $35; washers, dryers, stoves, water heaters, boilers, furnaces, dishwashers, $20; tires, $5; household furniture and fixtures, including carpeting, toilets and sinks, $10; swing sets, poles, $20; and lumber, plasterboard, $20 per cubic yard. In addition to the city's cubic yard fee, the Green County Landfill charges a tipping fee of $43.20 per ton.

Bulky waste items will not be picked up at the curb without a bulky waste sticker issued and paid for at City Hall or the street department.

For more information contact City Hall at (608) 329-2500 or the street department at (608) 329-2490.

Items may also be taken directly to the Green County Landfill. For information, call (608) 897-8605.
