MONROE - Kris Hasse will resign from her position as Green County Coroner effective Jan. 4, citing that she wants to focus on her family.

Hasse was appointed as the county coroner four years ago and won an unopposed election for another four-year term Nov. 4. Hasse said she loves her job, but her family takes precedence.

"I have to look out for my family," Hasse said.

Hasse declined to elaborate on the specifics of her resignation, only adding that she has a lot of "family things to do." Hasse has been with the coroner's office for 18 years, and there are five deputy coroners who serve under her.

A letter has been sent to Gov. Scott Walker, who will appoint a new coroner. Green County Clerk Mike Doyle said he hopes a recommendation is made soon so the position isn't vacant for too long.

"When our last sheriff resigned, there were no recommendations for a replacement," Doyle said of former sheriff Jeff Skatrud resigning in August 2013.

Hasse said she will miss her job, especially helping families through the difficulty of losing a loved one.

"It's been a great opportunity working with families," she said.

Hasse said the office will remain in the capable hands of her five deputy coroners.

"They're my angels," she said.
