MONROE -Monroe Theatre Guild's production of "Rabbit Hole," by David Lindsay-Abaire, will open in MTG's own theatre at 7:30 p.m. Friday, April 16.

This five-person cast is directed by Dave Bristow with Denise Plantenberg as assistant director.

"Rabbit Hole" tells the story of Becca and Howie, (Eileen Horn and Michael Boyce) who are still reeling from the accidental death of their young son, Danny, months earlier. As they each struggle to cope with the grief in their own way, their marriage starts to show the strain.

Becca's sister, Izzy (Janelle Kosek), always the family troublemaker, tries to help, as does Nat (Laurie Knoke), Becca and Izzy's mother, who has her own experiences with grief and loss. An unexpected announcement from Izzy, and a visit from Jason (Ben Minogue), the teenager who accidentally caused Danny's death, both help Becca realize the family has to move on.

Deeply humane, occasionally funny and always heartrending, "Rabbit Hole" explores the ways people deal with grief, both individually and as families. This bittersweet drama is about finding hope in the lowest moments of life and finding paths to return to the light of day.

Performances are 7:30 p.m. April 16, 17, 22 and 24 and 2 p.m. April 18 and 24. Tickets are general admission, $10-$12. Tickets are available at the MTG box office 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday and Tuesday and 5 to 7 p.m. Monday to Thursday.

People may reserve tickets by phone at (608) 325-1111 during box office hours or request tickets via e-mail at monroetheatre@tds.net or may be available at the door though seating is limited to 40 per show. The performance is not recommended for children under 13 due to language and heavy subject matter.

This will be the first full-length production in MTG's new home in the former STAGE/J.C. Penney building in downtown Monroe. The custom-built set and comfortable seating make an intimate setting that is perfect for this Pulitzer Prize winning drama. This downtown location (910 16th Ave., just off Monroe's Square) offers plenty of options for dinner before and after the show.
