MONROE - There's still time to raise money for Multiple Sclerosis research before the upcoming "Steppin' Up to Make A Difference" walk Saturday.

The three-mile walk for MS research is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. Saturday on the southeast corner of the Square.

Miss Wisconsin Teen Alyssa Quinn, Monroe, organized the event.

About 40 people have registered, so far. People who haven't registered can make a donation Saturday and take part in the walk.

Money raised from the walk goes to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.

According to webmd.com, Multiple Sclerosis is a disease that affects the brain and spinal cord which results in a loss of muscle control, vision, balance and sensation.

About 400,000 Americans have the disease. It's three times more common in females than males, and the disease is found most often in people in their teen years to the age of 50.

Symptoms for the disease include tingling, loss of balance, weakness in one or more limbs and blurred or double vision.

According to the MS society's Web site, nationalmssociety.org, there is no cure for the disease.
