Engineering Supervisor, City of Monroe

During the week of Oct. 24, Herbig Blacktop applied three coats of white epoxy paint along the border of the remaining crosswalks from 8th Avenue to 20th Avenue. The painting of the crosswalks took some time to be completed due to the lower temperatures during the day and threats of rain. The ambient air temperature is required to be at least 45 degrees and rising prior to any painting of the epoxy with at least two hours of cure time between coats depending on temperature. The fabrication and installation of hand railing was completed by Carter Machine and Welding. The corridor is planned to be completely opened by Saturday morning.

Once the 8th and 9th Street corridor is officially opened, all of the detour route signage will be removed and the temporary one-way streets of 10th and 11th Street from Wisconsin 69 to 13th Avenue will return to previous two-way traffic by the end of the day on Monday. Please be cautious along the side streets entering 10th or 11th Street as to this change and the addition of traffic from the opposite direction.

This has been a long project for all of the residents, businesses, and their customers in the vicinity of 8th and 9th Street, and we have finally made it to the end. This project couldn't have been completed without all of their support, patience, questions, comments, and friendly gestures throughout the project. The friendly gestures must have been from out-of-towners.

This project wouldn't have been completed were it not for the hard work and dedication of all of workers involved in the project: Starting with the HNTB team of Barry, Jesse, Tyler, and Monty, who were in charge of construction observation and the various plan adjustments during the road construction portion, and Keith and Scott of OTIE for their project management on behalf of the DOT; the Fehr-Graham and Associates team of Matt, Ken, and Todd for their design and observation work during the sewer and water main installation; the construction crews of Rock Road Companies headed up by Bobby and Sean Kennedy, and all of their subcontractors - Parisi, Westphal, Kramer, Voegeli, Carter Machine, Badger Signs, Guidelines, and Herbig; and Dane County Contracting for their long hours that they put in to complete the sewer and water project on time.

Also to all of the utility crews from Alliant, WE Energies, TDS, and the City of Monroe crews for their work relocating utilities and assisting when needed, as well as to the many local contractors (E & N Hughes, Gentz Electric, Whitney Tree Service, and Maddrell Excavating) for their assistance and responsiveness when we needed a quick fix for miscellaneous issues that arose.

Thanks again for everyone's hard work and cooperation.

Thank you.
