MONROE - The Monroe Police Department continues to follow leads about last week's vandalism at the Monroe High School library.

A teacher discovered the damage at about 7:15 a.m., Friday, June 6. The damage happened after a maintenance worker completed work for the previous night at about 11:30 p.m..

Monroe Police Chief Fred Kelley said the department has received numerous leads. He said it's going to take some time to piece everything together.

"We get a lot of 'I heard ...' kinds of comments and we follow up on them," Kelley said.

Kelley said they've heard some names of people who might have been involved. The detectives have to "sift through" the information, including some "pretty good" tips, Kelley said.

Almost every shelf in the library was emptied of its books, and furniture upturned.

The books appeared to be pushed from the shelves and allowed to pile as much as two to three feet high in the aisles.

In the periodical room, several magazines in their cases were knocked from the shelves, but no computers seemed touched.

The library houses more than 28,000 copies of books and magazines.
