MONROE - No storm, no rain, not even a hint of thunder. A sudden power outage in the southwest section of the city took many people by surprise around 5:15 a.m. Wednesday.
Alliant Energy crews were out on the streets searching for the cause and discovered a broken pole around 6:30 a.m. at the intersection of 11th Street and 17th Street. Two of the wires crossed when the top bent 90 degrees and twisted them.
Power was restored around 7:15 a.m.
