MONROE - Monroe High School was under a scheduled preventative lock-down Tuesday so the school could be searched, according to District Superintendent Cory Hirsbrunner. The drill included the Monroe Police Department and Darlington Police Department K-9 units.
"As was promised to parents/families, we do preventative lock-downs for searches of our schools on a regular basis," Hirsbrunner wrote in an email to The Monroe Times.
Hirsbrunner said the lock-down is similar to fire or tornado drills, and is intended to test safety practices at the school.
"We have done this a few times throughout the year and will continue to do so as part of our district safety measures," Hirsbrunner said.
The school was locked down for about 45 minutes from 9:45 a.m. to about 10:30 a.m. Tuesday.
