MONROE - Police are investigating a report of an assault that took place at about 7:45 p.m. Wednesday in the 1700 block of 16th Street.

Police Chief Fred Kelley said a 56-year-old Monroe woman was walking west when she noticed a couple of boys behind her. She described them as being middle school-aged and wearing pants, not shorts. Kelley said the two boys ran past the woman and knocked her down. There was no conversation between the boys and the woman prior to the incident or after the incident.

Kelley said the woman sustained minor injuries and was treated at Monroe Clinic.

"She felt that she was pushed," Kelley said. "Whether it was intentional or not, we don't know."

The police are investigating the incident as an assault because the woman was injured, Kelley said. The incident isn't considered a mugging because no money or property was taken from the woman.
