MONROE - A long-gestating plan for renovating the Pleasant View Nursing Home may soon bear fruit after a a committee approved a motion to commission new building plans Thursday.
The Pleasant View Nursing Home Oversight Committee advanced a plan for renovating the facility. The project was first proposed in February 2015, with several feasibility studies and property analyses conducted in the subsequent months.
"We've been taking this very gradually and carefully, which I think is how it should be done," said committee chairman Herb Hanson.
Nursing home administrator Terry Snow presented preliminary plans for the first phase of renovation, which will focus on reorganizing the home's first floor. The plans include moving the facility's main entrance to the current location of the facility's garage, and moving a physical therapy room to the present location of the administration wing.
Snow said the renovations will be more convenient for residents wishing to use the physical therapy room, and will place certain administrative offices closer to the entrance for the convenience of visitors.
Hanson said the renovations would also address complaints some residents had with the facility's bathrooms.
Some of the facility's beds remain empty, Hanson said, because many residents don't like the shared bathroom configuration.
Snow also revealed a broad preliminary budget for the renovations, which estimated costs ranging from $890,612 to $1,120,420.
A second phase of renovations, including an office remodel on the ground floor, would add an estimated $400,000 to $500,000 to the budget.
The renovation would also not interfere with an upcoming $500,000 upgrade to the facility's mechanical room, Snow said. The upgrade is scheduled to take place from April to July.
The committee approved Snow's proposal to commission building plans for the renovation, which Snow said could be drafted by the committee's meeting next month.
