MONROE - A new parking lot proposal leaves the fate of playground equipment at the Behring Senior Center in question.

The senior center wants the playground either moved to another location on the property, moved to another park in the city or removed completely to make room to expand its parking lot, according to Brian Saugstad, newly-elected president of Monroe's Board of Park and Recreation Commissioners.

The board took up the issue at its meeting Wednesday. "Nothing seriously was thrown about because of the cost involved," he said.

Ultimately, the final decision rests in the hands of senior center officials, but the park board is seeking input from the community about its fate. A list of park board members is available online at www.cityofmonroe.org. Click on Your Government, then select Board and Commissions from that drop-down menu.

No time line has been given on when the decision will be made, Saugstad said.
