MONROE - The Green County Wisconsin Master Gardeners Association will be conducting its annual plant sale from 9 a.m. to noon May 13.
The plant sale is an opportunity for area residents to purchase hardy zone four perennials, herbs and annual plants that have been grown locally by University of Wisconsin-Extension Master Gardener volunteers. Started vegetable plants, houseplants and unique plants will be available as well as several handcrafted garden use items.
The Green County Master Gardeners Association uses the proceeds from the plant sale to distribute scholarships to Green County area youth who are enrolled, or planning to enroll, in secondary education in a horticulture-related field of study. Funds also are used for other Master Gardener educational events. The plant sale will be held in the auditorium of the Government Services Building, Pleasant View Complex, N3150 Wisconsin 81, Monroe.
UW-Extension Master Gardener volunteers will be on hand to help buyers select plants to fit gardening needs.
There currently are more than 30 Master Gardener volunteers available to help answer gardening, turf, shrub, fruits, prairie and other horticulture questions. For answers to gardening questions or to contact Mark Mayer, UWEX agriculture agent for Green County, for more information on the UW-Extension Master Gardener program, call 608-328-9440.
