MONROE — An Illinois native previously charged with 26 felonies for child exploitation will face a 12-person jury trial in July. Donald “Tyler” Tiberius David Pitman, 22, Winslow, enters a three-day trial July 7-9 in the Green County Circuit Court, Branch Two, under Judge Thomas Vale.
In Feb. 2020, Pitman broke his bond by having in his possession two phones that he used to contact underage girls. Pitman was then charged with another 17 felonies, including child sexual exploitation and cause a child to view sexual activity, leading to the trial.
Potential jury members will be chosen from a list of 45 Green County residents, with each team having five challenges to disbar a potential juror. Pitman will have one final pre-trial conference June 28 before his court case proceeds.
In July 2019, Pitman was charged with 26 felonies, including child sexual exploitation and possession of child pornography. The charges stem from a criminal complaint in Dec. 2018, in which a 16-year-old female who was hanging out with Pitman and two other older men, approximately 30- to 40-years-old, bribed the victim to undress with alcohol and marijuana.
All three men then had sexual intercourse with the minor. According to the victim in the filed complaint, all of the men knew her age before they began. The contact started out consensual but later become non-consensual as the victim told the men to stop.
One man was not wearing a condom and continued, despite the victim’s protest. Another continued after the victim objected due to his weight suffocating her. Pitman had taken and sent 15 photos of the victim via Snapchat.
The other men in the criminal complaint have not been charged as there is not enough evidence to proceed with the case. Pitman signed a $20,000 surety bond mandating he have no unsupervised contact with anyone younger than 18 and to not use social media, including but not limited to Facebook, Skype, Snapchat and Instagram. His violation of that bond in Feb. 2020 led to further charges.
Pitman also has pending felony burglary and theft cases from 2018 alleging he stole scrap metal and other items.
