MONROE - A burst sprinkler pipe on the Blackhawk Technical College campus triggered security and temporarily closed the college Monday.
The pipe burst after frigid temperatures froze and expanded the water in the pipe, creating a sizable leak and triggering a fire alarm, said Gary Kohn, marketing and communications manager at BTC.
The Monroe Fire Department responded to the alarm and quickly shut off the water supply, Kohn said. Facilities management then responded to repair the damage.
"There's not much there but fans and dehumidifiers now," Kohn said. "There were damaged tiles but they replaced those pretty quickly."
The leak occurred during the college's winter break, so no classes were interrupted. Kohn said there would be no lasting damage resulting from the accident.
