People You Should Know: Jerry Kubly

Kubly has owned the quaint, genuine "corner gas station" on the intersection of Main Street and Lake Avenue, Monticello, for almost 42 years. The building, originally built as an ice cream parlor and candy store between 1911 and 1913, faces diagonally to the corner, and has four pumps - two for gas and two for diesel.

The building is unique, but so is the service Kubly provides. His station is probably the only place in Green County where people can buy gas with cash 24 hours a day. It's the only place left that gives a discount on gas for cash payments. And he still provides full-service for customers who can't or just don't want to pump their own gas.

In addition to selling gas, Kubly fixes tires, changes oil and does alignments. That, he said, is more than enough to keep him busy.
